Stay Alert and Protect Yourself from Utility Scams

Scams increase during the holiday season. Pretending to be a trusted utility worker is a trick some criminals use to gain access to homes, obtain payments or steal personal information.

REMEMBER: Our employees wear branded items, and our trucks are marked with our logo. Any service our employees conduct will be completed outside the home, for example at the meter or an outside tap.

If we need to enter a customer’s home, we require an appointment to allow entry and won’t come to the property demanding access inside.

We recommend you take the following precautions when contacted by someone who says they are a utility worker:

➼ Protect Personal Information:
Never disclose private personal information. Your utility will already have relevant information.

➼ Look For the Logo:
All company personnel wear company branded clothing and drive company branded vehicles.

➼ Never Give Cash: Our employees never collect money or credit card information from customers in the field.

➼ Pay Your Utility Only: If you suspect someone is attempting to scam you for payment, hang up. Call us to report the incident. Only make payments online in our customer portal, by calling your utility directly, or an utility-associated payment window or system.

Report the Scam to Your Utility: If you suspect someone may be a utility imposter, close and lock your door, and call 9-1-1. You can call us to report the incident and confirm whether service work is scheduled in your area. We want to be aware of any incidents to inform other customers.
