To Be Determined
During recent testing, some drinking water samples taken from properties in your community exceeded the action level for lead of 15 parts per billion. You may find further information in the related News Posting: Vanarsdale Residents - Potential Lead at "Above Action" Levels.
As required, Blue Granite Water is responding to these test results and, while lead is not present in the water we provide, we want to inform you of the issue. Homes and buildings that have water service lines, solder, or fixtures made of lead or brass, may have lead enter their drinking water through the corrosion of these plumbing materials.
Not all homes and businesses in your community were tested, and not all customers’ service lines or interior plumbing have lead components.
If your property was tested, you will be notified directly with those results. We are also notifying all other customers in this service area about the lead levels so you can take any precautions following Environmental Protection Agency guidance.
If you have lead piping or are uncertain as to your service line material or internal plumbing, to help reduce exposure to lead in drinking water, you should flush your water pipes for 30 seconds to two minutes before drinking water or using it for cooking. You may also want to use a certified lead-reducing filter. You will receive a related notice in the mail with this and other valuable information. You can also view this notice on our website at www.myutility.us/bluegranitewater/alerts.
Exposure to lead in drinking water can cause serious health effects in all age groups. Infants and children can have decreases in IQ and attention span. Lead exposure can lead to new learning and behavior problems or exacerbate existing learning and behavior problems. The children of women who are exposed to lead before or during pregnancy can have increased risk of these adverse health effects. Adults can have increased risks of heart disease, high blood pressure, kidney, or nervous system problems.
