Anticipated Hydrant Flushing Schedule

Flushing Program:

During the dates shown to the bottom-left of the map, you will notice Community Utilities of Indiana, Inc. personnel flushing water from the hydrants within the respective zones.

This allows us to both, exercise the hydrants to ensure proper operation and to remove built up sediment from the distribution main to maintain water quality and clarity.

Rusty Water:

Unfortunately, a common byproduct of flushing the distribution mains is rusty-colored water and lower water pressure at your water tap. Although the water is still safe for consumption we recommend that you refrain from using discolored water until it runs clear.

If you notice discolored water, we recommend to let your cold tap run for a few minutes, if this does not clear the discoloration wait 10-20 minutes and try again. We recommend avoiding washing clothes until the water is clear.

Flushing Zones:

To the bottom-left of the map are approximate locations of our Hydrant Flushing Zones along with their respective flushing dates. The greatest potential for discolored water and lower pressure will be within the zone we are actively flushing and the bordering zones.

However, discolored water and lower pressure may also be experienced within other zones, even if the zone has already been flushed. Clearing should occur within a few hours after the flushing activities are complete.

We will provide an updated map should the flushing schedule change.
